How to pack a shirt to limit creases
Reduce pressure and awkward folds rather than expecting a crease-free suitcase.

Pack a shirt that is ready to wear
A shirt taken straight from a crowded wardrobe already has folds that packing will not erase. Start with a clean, fully dry garment in the condition you would normally wear it. If it needs ironing and the label permits it, finish that before packing and allow the garment to cool. Do not fold warm, damp fabric into a tight space.
Decide which shirt will be needed first. The one for an arrival dinner should be accessible without dismantling the whole bag. This matters more than achieving an elaborate fold that cannot be repeated in a hotel room. Bring only as many shirts as the trip requires, leaving enough space to close the bag without leaning on it.
Keep thick details out of the fold
Lay the shirt on a clean surface and arrange the sleeves flat. Fold the sides inward, placing sleeves along the body rather than bunching them into the collar. Make as few additional folds as the bag dimensions allow. A narrow case may require a different shape from a broad weekend bag; there is no single rectangle that fits both.
Avoid placing the collar beneath a hard shoe sole or a full toiletry bag. Keep liquids in a separate secure container. A packing folder can help maintain an organised shape, but it cannot prevent pressure marks if the entire case is overloaded. Similarly, rolling is an option for some casual shirts, not a guarantee that a crisp shirt will emerge ready for a formal meeting.
Unpack with the garment in mind
On arrival, take the shirt out rather than leaving it compressed until the final minute. Hang or arrange it in a way appropriate to the material. Light travel creases may relax, but do not count on bathroom steam as a universal treatment; humidity and heat are not suitable for every garment.
If finishing is required, inspect the available iron and follow the care label. An unfamiliar appliance deserves a cautious start, especially around trims. Never iron clothing while wearing it. For a trip with no suitable facilities, choose a shirt whose relaxed texture you already accept in everyday use. Packing can limit creases, but selecting an appropriate garment is often the more reliable part of the plan.
