White leather trainers with tailored trousers
The connection at the hem matters more than making the shoes look formal.

Let the trouser remain a trouser
Tailored trousers do not need to imitate jeans before they can work with trainers. Keep their crease, drape and comfortable rise. The useful adjustment is often below the knee: a leg that falls cleanly onto the shoe looks deliberate, while a very long hem can gather around a broad trainer and hide the shape of both pieces.
Try the trousers with the actual pair you intend to wear. A low, narrow trainer occupies less space than a padded court shoe. The same hem can look short above the first and crowded over the second. If you are considering an alteration, take the shoes to the fitting rather than giving a measurement based on another outfit.
White is not one surface
A smooth white upper makes a different impression from mesh panels, large contrasting logos or a heavily sculpted sole. None is forbidden. Decide which detail you want to notice first. If the trouser has a pronounced texture or wide silhouette, a relatively simple trainer leaves that feature visible instead of introducing several competing shapes.
The whites in your clothes need not match the shoe exactly. An ecru T-shirt and white trainers can sit together, especially with navy or charcoal trousers separating them. Trying to create a perfect white set can make an everyday outfit more demanding than necessary. Judge the whole combination in ordinary daylight, not only under a bright shop spotlight.
Build the middle of the outfit
A plain knit, an Oxford shirt or a relaxed jacket can connect the two ends. With a crisp business shirt and very formal trousers, the trainers may look like a last-minute substitution. Opening the collar or choosing a softer shirt can help, but it is also reasonable to wear leather shoes if the occasion asks for them.
Socks are part of the visible connection. Dark socks can continue the trouser line; pale socks make a clearer break. No-show socks produce another effect, provided they stay secure inside the shoe. Walk, sit and cross your legs during the fitting so that the choice works when more of the ankle becomes visible.
Before leaving, check the soles as well as the uppers for obvious dirt. The aim is presentable footwear, not a permanently untouched finish. A comfortable, maintained pair that you actually wear is more useful than a delicate pair reserved for a hypothetical perfect outfit.
